Castle tour

Many of us are attracted to the ancient castle ruins. To me they tell more about their times than their fully restored sisters.

I am recommending two different tours, one to the east and the other to the west. Both involves more known and less known, well saved and almost destroyed ruins.

Eastern Castle Tour:

After departure we start with real ruins. Csővár-Buják-Sámsonháza are our waypoints.

They are followed by the twins of Salgóvár és Somoskő. Somoskő is just beyond the border, both this does not spoil the sight at all.

The way back is stuffed with aces. Castles of Hollókó and Szanda, the beautiful Nógrád and the famous Visegrád. The surprise is almost in Budapest. The mock-up the Castle of Eger next to Csobánka, built for a movie scene.

Flight time: depending on the exact route, between 1 hour 15 min and 1 hour 30 min.

Western Castle Tour:

After departure we fly over Lake Velence. First we visit the youngest castle of the country, the Bory-castle in Székesfehérvár. Just a few more minutes and we get to the Castle of Szabadbattyán. If military airspace is not in use then we continue to the Thury castle in Várpalota.

Here we have the options to extend our route to Veszprém, Bánd and Döbrönte, or go direct to the highlight (for me at least), Csesznek. After Csesznek come the 3 castles in the Vértés mountains, Csókakő, Várgesztes and Vitányvár.

The wrap up for this tour are the well know Castle of Tata and the Church at Zsámbék.

Flight time: depending on the exact route, between 1 hour 15 min and 1 hour 50 min. .
